Share your school health success story!

BoardBuzz is pleased to announce a new NSBA online resource: the School Health Programs Promising District Practices Web site. This Web site shares success stories related to school health policies and practices being implemented in school districts and schools around the country.   

The site includes stories of school districts and schools that are successful in establishing internal coordination, enlisting school board and administrator support, creating partnerships, involving parents and communities, obtaining funding, engaging youth, demonstrating links between health and learning, and carrying out other useful strategies that help keep students healthy and ready to learn.  

NSBA’s School Health Programs developed the  Promising District Practices site to highlight these school health “best practices” in a practical and easily accessible way.  It also features a searchable database of local school district successes in developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and practices that address health risk behaviors and health promotion issues. The stories are submitted by the school districts and schools and reviewed by NSBA’s School Health Programs staff. While the current topics are limited to Coordinated School Health Programs, Tobacco Use, Asthma, Healthy Eating, and Physical Activity, these may be expanded in the future.

BoardBuzz would love to see more of these success stories!  So, if you have valuable school health policies and practices that you would like to share with your peers, submit them to NSBA for possible publication using the site’s online submission form.  By providing your story and guidance, you can help others build effective school health approaches that may strengthen students’ health and education outcomes!
