Technology, strengthening the family unit?

The BBC did an interview with Matt Buxton, Director of Learning Technologies at Djanogly Academy in Nottingham, and he certainly believes that access to student performance and participation can bring students closer.  The idea is that students feel isolated when their parents ask them about their school work.  Since parents have access to students assignments, grades, and daily activities due to technology they don’t need to follow-up with their student.  What do you think?  Does technology increase parent-student communication?  Does it change the communication? Or does it foster more barriers as suggested by another interview with psychologist, Professor Tanya Byron.

Share your thougths?  What impact has technology had in your district between parents and students?
