“Colleges, Awash in Applications, Turning Away Even Top Students”
(Washington Post, April 7, 2006)
The headlines are stark. Anxiety levels are sky-high. But the thousands of high school seniors sending off college applications right now might be surprised to learn it is no more difficult to get into college than it was a decade ago. Although some schools have gotten harder to get into–including a number of state flagship institutions– overall it is no more difficult for the average high school graduate to get into a good college today than it was in the early 1990′s.
But the report doesn’t stop there. Find out how students can increase their chances while still in high school and which students are having a harder time getting into college–and what school boards should do to help them. *Spoiler Alert*–its not all about the GPA.
Find out more about these and other findings in an original research report being released today from the Center for Public Education, called “Chasing the College Acceptance Letter: Is it harder to get into college?”
