Council of School Attorneys elects new leadership

NSBA’s Council of School Attorneys (COSA) elected new leaders and directors during its annual meeting in Boston in conjunction with NSBA’s Annual Conference. The 22-member board of directors oversees COSA’s continuing legal education programming for its 3,000 members across the United States and Canada.

Elizabeth Eynon-Kokrda became Chair; she is a partner and chairs the education practice section at the Omaha, Neb., firm of Baird Holm, LLP and received her J.D., cum laude, from Creighton University School of Law.

Allison Brown Schafer became Chair-elect; she is Director of Policy and Legal Counsel for the North Carolina School Boards Association and received her J.D. from Wake Forest University.

Gregory J. Guercio became Vice-Chair; he is founding partner of the Farmingdale, N.Y., law firm of Guercio & Guercio, LLP and received his law degree from St. John’s University, School of Law.

Justin D. Petrarca became Secretary; he is a partner with the Chicago firm of Scariano, Himes, and Petrarca, and received his J.D. from the John Marshall Law School.

COSA also elected four new directors to two-year terms: Séamus P. Boyce is a partner with Church, Church, Hittle & Antrim law firm in Indiana; Danielle J. Haindfield is a partner in the Des Moines, Iowa, law firm of Ahlers & Cooney, P.C. and General Counsel to the Iowa Association of School Business Officials; Phillip L. Hartley is managing partner of the Gainesville, Ga., law firm of Harben, Hartley& Hawkins, LLP and General Counsel for the Georgia School Boards Association; Anne H. Littlefield is a partner with the Hartford, Conn., law firm of Shipman & Goodwin, LLP.

In addition, COSA elected four directors to a second two-year term: Lisa A. Brown is a founding partner of Thompson & Horton LLP in Houston, Texas; Jennifer E. Gornall is a shareholder in the Erie, Pa., office of Knox McLaughlin Gornall & Sennett; Karla Schultz is an associate with the Austin, Texas, firm of Walsh, Anderson, Gallegos, Green & Trevino, PC.; Pilar Sokol is deputy general counsel to the New York State School Boards Association in Latham, N.Y.
