What would you do if …

The July issue of American School Board Journal asks readers their advice on this scenario:

The superintendent and board were stumped. For years, the district had tried to get parents and the community more involved. The administration was out of ideas. School board members were dismayed but at a loss themselves. What should they do?

    The Facebook poll choices do not really get at the heart of what is needed for parent and community involved. Of course, it is a full-time job, but whose job is it?

    Parent involvement starts at the classroom level. Open communication between teachers and parents are key.

    Community involvement entirely depends on the community. Is it rural, suburban, or urban? Does it involve a few square miles of property or many?

    There is not one right or wrong answer to this question.
